From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Immortals, Alyson Noël, comes Fated—a breathtaking novel brimming with magic, mystery, and an intoxicating love story that will steal your heart away. A wad of gum smacking between her back teeth when she says, “Reminds me of Vegas.” I survey the place. Taking in walls glossed with pale green paint—the color of cucumber meat—the color of calm—along with worn linoleum grey tiled floors left to bubble in the places where they’re not already torn. Her assessment so far off the mark, so opposite the seedy glitz and glam of Vegas, I don’t even respond. I just close my eyes and slide toward the edge of the curved plastic seat that’s attached to both the floor and the wall. Everything in this place is bolted to something. It’s an attempt to keep the crazies from hurling the furniture at the white-coated doctors prowling the halls. This is the house of crazy. A place to contain the insane. “Doesn’t it remind you of Vegas?” Jennika’s tone grows louder, more insistent. More than anything, my mom hates to be ignored, especially by me. So I throw her a bone, decide to play along. “You mean because of all the slot machines? Or is it the ridiculously long line for the all-you-can-eat prime rib buffet?” I prop an eye open, watching as her eyes roll in their sockets, her brow shooting well past her platinum blond bangs with the chunky pink stripe. Then I close my eyes again, try to focus on something more pleasant, try to conjure the beautiful boy from my dreams. But the drugs they’ve been feeding me, only serve to keep him at bay. “I meant the absence of windows. And, if you’ll notice, there’s not one single clock—not anywhere!” She shakes her head and scowls, annoyed with the decor as much as the predicament I’ve sunk us both into. “What’d you expect? Ocean views and whirlpools? It’s a mental ward, Jennika.” My voice sounds listless and bored—as though I can barely drum up the energy to participate. “Best not to keep track of how many days they lock you away.” Jennika sighs, and leans toward me. Her fingers fussing at my long dark hair, arranging it around my shoulders as though it’ll make some kind of difference to anyone other than her. “It’s not a mental ward, Daire—it’s…” I slant my gaze toward hers, waiting to see where her hunt for the perfect euphemism will end. “It’s a hospital.” She huffs. “A renowned research center. Nothing more, nothing less

Reader reviews of Daire Meets Ever (The Soul Seekers 0.50)

Carol [Goodreads Addict]

Daire is 16 years old. But, she has been experiencing some things that are not normal for a 16 year old. She is seeing glowing people. And when she sees them, the skies fill with ravens. When she first starts having these visions, her mother thinks she is having some sort of a mental break down. She is put under the care of doctors and given strong drugs. But, nothing seems to help. So Daire's paternal Grandmother steps in. Daire has never even met her Grandmother, Paloma, but she is forced to go and live with her in a town called Enchantment, New Mexico. What will her Grandmother be like? What will her new home be like? This was a short prequel to the Soul Seekers series and I can't wait to find out.

I read Fated years ago and loved it. Enough so, I have the birds from the beginning of each chapter tattooed on my wrist. I saw this for free, and although it's a backstory, I was intrigued and hoped it would be good.It was too short to be anything though. Ever and Daire meet and that's really all there is to it.I feel like I need to get on with this series. I gave Fated a 4 out of 5 and never continued, now that I had a refresher, I feel like I'm missing out.2.5/5

Goodreads Synopsis: What happens when an immortal meets a soul seeker? Find out in this bonus scene as Ever Bloom and Daire Santos cross paths! Meet The Soul Seekers. Experience the enchantment of Fated and the new The Soul Seekers series with this special release featuring: the bonus scene, a note from Alyson Noël and selections from Fated. My Review: I was so excited when I found this! How awesome is it when there's a crossover in books?! Awesome. Or so I thought. I was dissapointed in this book. I knew it was like, a prequal for the Soul Seekers Series, but this 'meeting' between Ever and Daire was boring and brief. I thought it was going to be epic and I was dissapointed. Sure getting to see Ever and Damen one more time was cool, but this wasn't a story. It wasn't even a short story. They passed in the halls and had a quick chat as strangers. It's not what I expected. I don't say this very often, but I kind of regret downloading it. Though it's small, it wasn't worth my time. I could've been reading something exciting, and instead I was reading this. That's all I have to say, except to answer this question. What happens when an Immortal meets a Sour Seeker? Absolutely nothing. Thanks for reading, here's a link to my blog! Can't wait to get started with this series. I'll admit, I haven't read any of Alyson Noel's books in a while because I got hooked on Evermore then Blue Moon depressed me... Sooo... I just stopped reading those. Anywho, This seems like a great series that I'm hoping to get hooked on. (Not to mention the fact that I love the names Alyson comes up with. Daire = So pretty.)

Tracy

I give this a four because this is a short story about Daire meeting Ever and Damen from the immortal series. I got confused because why is Ever and Damen still manifesting things when they were mortal again in the last book of theirs? Hmmm, I guess I didn't read something right. Anyways, This is great because it gives you a idea about who Daire is and how she got to what she is now. Can't wait to buy the series and read them !

Nice short story that connects the "Immortal Series" with the new series by Alyson Noël the "Soul Seekers". If you are a fun of the Immortals and you want to explore the new world by Noël before you get into Fated read it.

This is a short story that happens before most of the first book in The Soul Seekers series, Fated. This short story features Daire Santos, the heroine of the new series. She's in the hospital ward, and in my theory, it's between chapter two to three.Daire tries to escape from the hospital/psycho ward, and bumps into Ever. The story was really short and was a 5+ minutes read. It was nice to spend a few moments on it and actually, between us, I think Noel wrote this shorty after she wrote the first book, because her writing was simple and fun to read.Writing:The writing didn't bold up, but I have no hate for simple writing, it was soft and fitted perfectly the story.Characters:Daire- She didn't do much but try and escape the hospital. In the story, I had no hate for her and liked her remarks.Ever- It would be a surprise to most Noel haters, but Ever is nice and not annoying. I have no idea how that happened.Damen- From where the fuck he came? Why was he here?Jennika- Stay pretty, lady.4/4.5 STARSLiked:-Daire-Writing-Enjoyed reading-A bit of EverDislikes:-Damen doing shit-Jennika...Jennika-ShortnessWell, if you want to read this bonus, search for The Soul Seekers app on FaceBook. Takes no time and is a nice read. Review on my blog!:)

The first series i started reading from this author were the soul seekersthen i read the short story "Daire Meets Ever" and then after reading it i decided to read the immortal series. It was only a scene actually were Daire sees Ever as a happy person who reassures her that everything is going to be ok. The story was very short but it gave me hope while i was reading the immortal series that no matter what happens in the end Ever and Damen would be ok and happy.

It's what it says. A short story where the two girls meet. It doesn't really give anything away at all though. There's nothing else to say about it since nothing else happened..

Okay, so I was a little confused with this reading, and I guess it is because I haven't read the Immortal series, so I didn't understand the connection between Ever and Daire. After I read the part titled "Daire Meets Ever" and the read the letter to the reader, I realized it would be a "disconnect" for me. As I was reading the part that is introducing the main character in the new series, I kept trying to figure out how Ever fit in. I'm still not sure if she will be in the new series or not.Evidently the short story's purpose is to introduce Daire Santos, the protagonist of Noel's next series, THE SOUL SEEKERS. I completely enjoyed the story and meeting Daire. She is one feisty little girl who has issues with her mother, Jennika. Daire has "hallucinations" that are either drug-induced or a mental disorder, according to the doctors. But when a drug test comes back clean, the assumption is mental problems. Poor Jennika doesn't know what to do with Daire to help her, so she sends her to Daire's grandmother that Jennika hasn't seen in years and Daire's never met. Daire's grandmother apparently has some knowledge of herbs and their healing powers, but both Daire and the grandmother also know that the herbs only help Daire for a while and the "hallucinations" return. I am assuming that Daire is a Soul Seeker. I guess I'll find out exactly what is causing her to see the "glowing people...crows...thousands of bloodied, severed heads on spikes..." when I read FATED, the first book in THE SOUL SEEKER series. :o)

It's quick, it's short, it's simple, but it really serves as a way to connect Alyson Noël's characters. With reading this short story I was able to better understand Alyson Noël's thinking and thematic ideas. Anyone who has read the Immortals series and the Soul Seekers series should just take the short time to read this one little story to understand The author's world and stories so much more.

Petra

I've already read the Soul Seeker series. So this book felt a bit like it arrived too late to the party haha. IHowever, I haven't read the Immortal Series yet, so I'm going to start with that serie now.

A short read! What happens when an immortal meets a soul seeker? After the Immortals series finished, I was glad there was a small bonus read that gives a small glimpse of these characters while also introducing the heroine in the Soul Seekers series.Full of 'hallucinations,' glowing people, mystery, magic, immortals and soul seekers.Perfect for readers of fantasy novels.

Zoë

A cross over of Ever from The Immortals series and Daire from Soul Seekers. I have read The Immortals but not Soul Seekers and had no trouble understanding what was going on. You don't have to have read either series but may spoil The Immortals a little bit for you.Is told from Daire's point of view and she sounded somewhat interesting so I might give the Soul Seekers series a go. Any girl in a psych ward is something I might want to read about. What can I say I have a soft spot for crazy people.

Dianne

You have to love when two amazing series can get together, even if for only a few minutes! Daire meets Ever by Alyson Noel is a quick read, introducing some more detailed background on Daire, when she began seeing glowing auras around people, not understanding what or who she really was. Under the care of doctors, Daire (Soul Seekers Series) is visited by Ever (Immortals Series) who tries to reassure her that she is not crazy! For those who know Ever, this is a great opportunity to meet Daire and vice versa! Alyson Noel did a great job making this a short, smooth flowing read, no drama, just a meet-and-greet! Easy reading, yet it whets the appetite for both series! Series: Soul Seekers, Book 0.5/Bonus read, The Immortals Publication Date: May 3, 2012 Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin Genre: Paranormal Fantasy Page Count: 47 Available from: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

I have read the Immortals series by Alyson Noel and found the story to be okay and I have grown to like Ever and Damen. I also wanted to read the Soul Seekers series so when I was able to download this little story for my Kindle app I was willing to give it a try and I am so happy I did. Daire Meets Ever was a really good short story. Not only did it make me think what did Ever and Damen do after the Immortals series ended but it made me think that maybe there could be a new series with them. And of course it made me want to read the Soul Seekers series even more.

This was short novella which introduced Daire Santos as she is being examined by doctors for seeing glowing people. Daire goes outside for fresh air and meets a young girl who reassures her she is ok and not 'crazy' what you find out quickly is that she is meeting Ever and Damen who were last seen in Everlasting. Ever explains that she will die many times and that she shouldn't feel 'crazy' cause she is far from it.

Annamarie

This little bonus scene was a great introduction to Alyson's new series The Soul Seekers, you get to meet the main character of the series 'Daire Santos' and an old character 'Ever Bloom' from the Immortal Series. You get a hint into the two girls but nothing about there 'secret lives' are given away. I am excited to read about Daire adventures and misadventures just as much as I was about reading all about Ever's.

Daire Meets Ever is a captivating short story on how Daire from the Soul Seekers Series and Ever from The Immortals Series meet. This story is exciting if you've read both The Immortal and Soul Seekers Series. This short story also hints out about Daire's future. The only problem with this story is that it's too short!!! I wished Alyson Noel had continued the story.
