Get in get out, don't be seen," Ian said as he stuffed a gun in his back waistband, pulling his jacket down to conceal it. "Noelle, Ryan, you two are to stay in the lobby. Cause a distraction but don't get caught. Alejandra, Melanie, you two know the drill. You're getting in through the air vents. Melanie, you're going straight to the computer mainframe and getting a layout of the place, you'll be giving us directions on which way to go. Alejandra you're going to disable the security systems floor by floor as we go. The controls for that are in the head of the security's office. Eric and I will go up floor by floor to get what we came here for. Try to leave no trace of ever being here," Ian added in and we all nodded our understanding. I pulled the black beanie lower over my head and tucked my curly light brown hair into it. Alejandra gave me a look that asked if I was ready as she pulled on her own beanie over her bun of dark brown hair. Both of us in the same get-up. Black pants, long-sleeved black shirts, gloves, and converse sneakers. I slipped on the climbing harness over my clothes same as Alejandra. "Ready when you are," I told her and she nodded as she threw open the trap door in the bottom of the van we were all camped out in. "One more thing," Ian called out as Eric leaned down the trap door to remove the sewer grate from the street below for us. "Only use numbers when communicating over comms," We all chorused in unison. Ian gave

Chapter 1594
The Protector *************** In Erudia, a private jet landed at North Hampton Airport, where all international flights experienced an eight-hour delay because of it. At the private passageway were five men in suits and leather shoes, standing as straight as a javelin. Every now and then, they would raise their wrist to look at the time, for a big shot was coming to town. The upper-class society of North Hampton had learned about his arrival, but no one had the capability to get an inch closer to the private passageway. Even the richest man in North Hampton who came to pay homage was chased away. Finally, there were movements coming from the passageway. “God of War!!!” the mass cried out, their eyes filled with awe and veneration at the sight of the undefeatable legend of Erudia. He, who was dubbed the God of War, was the one and only Five-Star God of War in the history of Erudia. Once, he'd inflicted a crushing defeat on the strongest battalions in eighteen countries. He was an overbearing and formidable man. He who overwhelmed the world with his unparalleled power had even created the Five Great Wars Regiment, Cavalry Regiment, and many more. ... Setting foot on his homeland, Levi Garrison was overcome with emotions. Once upon a time, he used to be an orphan who was abandoned on the streets of North Hampton and then adopted by the Garrison family. However, the Garrison family had never been fond of him. His adoptive parents, who had a tendency to beat and scold him, treated him like an outsider. As for the outsiders, they treated him as a nobody. But he didn't care a stiver. He had always been proud of his surname since he was a child, and he strived to bring glory to this family when he grew older. At last, Levi had established Levi Group, the largest dark horse in North Hampton's business community. With billions of assets, it ranked among the forefront of North Hampton, pushing the declining Garrison family to the top. However, not only did the Garrison family showed no signs of appreciation, they even harbored dissatisfaction towards him. Jealous of his success, they regarded him as a thorn in their flesh and coveted Levi Group.

Chapter 500
Don't Mess with this Son-in-Law *************** “I’m busy right now. You should attend the boy’s parent-teacher meeting at his school.” At the entrance of Four Seas Corporation. Alex Jefferson had been standing on duty as usual, when his wife had suddenly rung him up. Before he could utter a word, the line went dead. It was almost as abrupt as his wife’s tone. Staring at the phone in his hands, a bitter smile spread across Alex’s face. His wife’s recent attitude towards him had taken a toll for the worse. Whenever she looked at him, her gaze was always laced with coldness and disappointment. For others, a relationship usually turned sour, at the age of thirty. Unfortunately, the perils of a failing relationship had arrived at his doorstep, four years early. Raising his head to glance at the dark clouds that swept across the sky, he realized that there was going to be torrential rain very soon. Regardless of whether or not he was going to attend the parent-teacher meeting, he still needed to pick his son up from school. Thus, he put aside his phone and walked toward the manager’s office. Meanwhile, the manager of the security department, James Langdon, was flirting with the pretty receptionist. He was visibly infuriated, at the sight of Alex barging in without warning, interrupting his romantic advances. “I didn’t see anything. Do carry on.” Startled, Alex turned to leave. However, the pretty receptionist was increasingly flustered, as she soon rushed out, before he could even take a step forward. “Get back here!” Leaning back on his chair, James pulled out a cigarette and lit it, with much annoyance. Then, he asked impatiently, “What are you doing here? Why aren’t you on duty?” Alex turned around and replied awkwardly, “Um, Sir, I would like to take a half-day off.” “Why?” James lazily puffed out a cloud of smoke. “It’s going to rain any time now. I need to attend my son’s parent-teacher meeting...” “All you do is laze around, all day at work. Do you think that this is your family-owned company?” Slamming a fist on the table, James stood up in fury and pointed a finger at Alex, “Look at yourself! A live-in son-in-law of the Jenningses! You bring shame to us men, do you know that? All you do is laze around at work, without doing much. Do you think that this company is the Jennings family, where you can leech off from?”

After that, Jiang Ning was taken away by a mysterious person and went through grueling training and fights! Fifteen years later, he had risen to become the ultimate God of War in the East, with incomparable wealth and power. He has returned as a king! All the passengers in the airport quickly made way for them, not knowing who could have caused such a commotion. The leader of the men in suits frowned deeply, then suddenly turned and left as if he had suddenly thought of something. Soon they reached the pavement outside the airport. Jiang Ning was sitting on a long bench, slowly blowing cigarette smoke out from his mouth. “Master hopes you can go back, he misses you very much,” the leader respectfully addressed Jiang Ning as he stood about five steps behind him. In front of other people, this leader was of high standing, and nobody dared to go against him. But in front of this young man in front of him, he felt extremely lowly! “He misses me?” Jiang Ning turned slightly and there was a smirk on his face. “Does his miss my influence? Or my money?” If someone else had said something like that, this leader would have despised him. How could the rich and powerful Jiang family from the city of Jingdu ever covet anybody else’s power and money? But the man in front of him was different. He was the sole heir of the Jiang family! What made this leader even more shocked was that he was known as the War God of the East, with immense capabilities and jaw dropping wealth! “When he chased me out of the family and married that vixen fifteen years ago, Jiang Ning had died.” Jiang Ning exhaled his last mouthful of smoke, “Jiang Ning now has nothing to do with that Jiang family back in Jingdu.” He got up to leave.

Chapter 16 ZERO: Into the Unknown
Chaos Realm book online reading Under Construction. *************** "The city of Goldenwatch harbors many kinds of trees. All different kinds loom here in this fascinating city of high buildings and low crime. Though what people don't comprehend is, even the trees cling to life. Not only do the people strive for life, but the trees do as well. The tree branches are like limbs of a human being reaching for life, waiting to be rescued, waiting for support. Why do the people chop them down as though they are nothing? Well, it all revolves around one word; life. The people who choose to end the lives of trees will eventually similarly meet their demise. Sooner or later, the queen will pass judgment on all of the poor souls that banish the trees to the world known as the Underworld. Soon the humans will be the ones reaching out for life like the trees they gracefully chopped down. Who will stand before she who calms the world and grants it peace? Well, no one is strong enough to stop the inevitable. The people will silently watch as the trees did once before, watching their brethren being slaughtered and shredded into pieces." Verse 4 of 33 of the Prophecy, known only as Catastrophe. Goldenwatch Cheers filled the extravagant streets. Many florists launched petals into the heavens while pipers played their pipes with joy. Marching through the crowd was a young man by the age of twenty adorned by a cloak that was heavily shaded black. His short brown locks and shining green eyes remained uncloaked from the people who cheered him on. Beside him walked a female with long light green hair and three others just behind them. The people continued their loud and joyous screams, willing their heroes on. The children ran about reenacting the happenings of what was supposed to be the demise of their beloved Goldenwatch. "Turstin is the best!" A young female yelled. "Tch. Give me a break!" "Come on, Roselia, let them cheer me on. I am a hero, after all." The green-haired woman to the left of Turstin rolled her eyes, halting beside her comrade. The crowd quieted themselves to a low tone, ready to listen to the ceremonies. Turstin watched on before he kneeled on one knee, bowing his head. The female copied, as did the three soldiers heavily equipped in silver armor at their rear. A tall and burly man wearing a golden crown stepped from the royal crimson curtain introducing himself to the people he cared for—a wave of his hand, the people, went to a boisterous rising. The King of Goldenwatch wore many ornaments across his chest along with many white and gold robes. Holding out his hand before him, the King wearing a gold mask with a happy look upon it cleared his throat and spoke for the second time since his arrival here fifteen years ago. "Turstin, Roselia, Aquarius, Aden, and Gale have all earned the title of savior for the city of Goldenwatch. Not only did they slay the dreaded dark dragon the dark lord himself sent to terrorize our homeland, b

On an Island with a Bad Woman

Chapter 359
On an Island with a Bad Woman *************** I lived in an extremely biased family; my sister studied for her college entrance examination every night, while I was forced to do household chores. I even had to do the laundry for the family, including my sisters’ lingerie just so that it didn’t take up her precious time although I was in my senior year, too. Sometimes, when I delayed the household chores in favor of studying, I would be dressed down severely. All this stemmed from the fact that I was adopted. My parents passed away in a car accident, and there was no other relative in my family. Matthew Yates was my father’s comrade-in-arms, and he took me home to raise me. He was very good to me, but Melody Ziegler and Rosalie Yates detested me, the latter in particular. Melody was his deceased wife’s best friend who helped to manage the family’s finances. She claimed that she wanted to help her best friend raise her daughter, but I knew full well that she wanted to marry Matthew because he was rather well-to-do. Rosalie, on the other hand, was his daughter. She’d been picking on me ever since the day Matthew brought me home, so Melody joined hands with her in bullying me. We were in the same class, but she always disparaged me before our classmates, asserting that I was a useless person who sponged off her family. I only had new clothes during New Year, yet she also told our classmates that it was her father who bought me clothes. Then, she’d spit on my clothes and even doodle on them with a ballpoint pen, declaring that it was her father who paid for them, so she could do anything she wanted to them! Thus, I was tantamount to her dog in class, and many classmates scorned me because of this. However, I still worked exceedingly hard because my greatest dream was to leave this place and have my own life. Hence, I often stayed up late and studied hard. In the end, my results even surpassed Rosalie’s. Overjoyed, Matthew gave me two grand as a reward. It just so happened that our class was organizing a graduation trip out to sea on a yacht. I wanted to go as well since I had a few close friends in class. I wouldn’t be coming back anymore after attending college, so I wanted to have some beautiful memories with them. The night before we set out, I took water to wash Rosalie and Melody’s feet as usual. This was something I’d been coerced into doing all these years. Matthew was often away due to work, so they took the opportunity to bully me. They were both beauties, always wearing super short spaghetti strap nightgowns that had their long and slender legs on display. Others thought that they loved being sexy at home, but I knew that it was for photography purposes. They were Internet celebrities on TikTok with tons of fans, for they attracted them with sexual appeal. Both of them were b*tches, but I dared not say anything to Matthew since I didn’t want him to be caught in a family conflict. As I washed Rosalie’s feet, she casually lifted a leg

MMXXI Arc 1: Mark of Chastity! Chapter 1: Shadowed Road Gloomy the night sky was. Star filled with dread underneath it all. There was a glance here and another with the man well secured by thick shadows and shades of black wardrobe. Tattered and blemished by the divine nature no longer controlled by Mother Nature herself. Unknown 1: "Thing's just keep on getting worse, huh?" Unknown 2: "What do you mean, Royce? Things have been the same for a while now. Nothing has changed around here. Everything's been the same." The glum in the second's voice foretold of their everyday life. Darkness veiled what truly lay before them, pushing off the wall, the man wearing but a hood over his sleek and unkempt shoulder-length hair trudged about through the empty avenue. Royce: " Come on, Bayler. We can't keep ourselves out here. We've gotta get a move on. Wouldn't want any bandits coming after us again." Bayler: "Yeah, you've got a point there. Do you want to hit up the Tavern then? I hear there's a sale going on." Bayler laughs some, "You know how it is with Maxie, always trying to get his booze sold as fast as possible." Royce: " I would love to get my drink on, but I've got to check up on Joyce. Can't leave her alone after all." Bayler:"Eh, well, suit yourself, man. I'll see you down at the Tavern then if you decide on going. Do be careful out there, alright?" Off went Bayler hidden in the alleyway's shadows. He, too, was marked by fatigue. Clothes ripped and shoes left ripped open. Making sure to hop over the piles of junk in front of him, Bayler shot a glance and a wave to his comrade before disappearing into the night. Not a single beam of light setting the road Instead, there it was—the ultimate homeland of sanctity, life, and most importantly, HOPE. The Citadel shined brilliantly as it marked the last of true hope dead center of the sky. Royce: "Hmph! Damn Angels..." Royce paused. A deathly glare shot at the enormous hovering Citadel a few hundred miles away. The colossal infrastructure commenced in its vibrancy. Royce could not stand it. He turned his back to it, walking deeper into the darkness of where Bayler had gone opposite opposite of where Bayler had gone opposite of where Bayler had gone. About a m

I was not a morning person, especially when it came to high school. Having to wake up early in the morning to go to a place where all you did was sit on a chair and listen to pointless lessons wasn't my way of going, but apparently, my mother didn't care about this as she pounded on my door. "Amelia, get up! Your alarm went off three times already!" she shouted from the other side. I rolled my eyes and stood up from the bed. One annoying alarm was enough, I didn't need a living one at my door as well. I called back to let her know that I was awake before walking to my closet. My eyes roamed through the variety of clothes, and I scrunched my nose up, feeling too lazy to actually pick something nice to wear. So instead, I made a beeline to my drawers and grabbed the first thing I saw. I threw on some loose, black sweatpants and a simple white tank top, completing the look with my worn-out converse. Standing in front of the body-length mirror attached to the back of my door, I ran my fingers through my wavy blonde hair. Since I didn't have time to actually brush it, I picked up a black beanie from the carpeted floor and adjusted it over my head. Green eyes stared back at me through the reflection of the mirror, contrasting slightly against my pale skin as I reviewed my outfit. Meh, it's not like I really cared about how I looked anyway. Grabbing my weightless bag from the floor, I made my way downstairs. My mother was sitting on the couch in the living room, her feet up on the coffee table while she eyed a magazine. Her gaze lifted to meet mine as she heard me approaching, her eyebrows knitting together in disapproval as she took in my outfit. Before she could make a comment on my choice of style, I picked up my headphones from the table in the dining room and made my way out. I never bothered saying goodbye, since I knew pretty well she would just throw a c

A military aircraft was making its landing at the Channing International Airport. Hundreds of soldiers from the special forces aligned themselves into neat rows at the airport. Each soldier was dressed in full battle gear. None of them could tear their adulatory eyes away from the aircraft that had just landed. There was a sense of eager anticipation in the air. Nathan Cross made his way down the aircraft's stairs after he had exited. His black combat boots creaked with every step he took. “Attention!” “Salute!” The strident voice of the officer pierced through the air with a note of authority and discipline. The troops raised their right hand uniformly to give their salutes while greeting him concertedly, “Welcome to Channing, Sir!” He was their general, whose actual name was Nathan Cross, although they liked to refer him as the Ares of the North. That was because he had never lost a battle in his distinguished military career, since the day he had joined the army as a young chap. His track record for the past five years had been jaw-dropping when he had led the troops to several significant victories in the north. He had repeatedly defended the borders from invading enemies. The country owed it to his tactical genius and strategic astuteness for the peace and prosperity that it was enjoying today. With a tall and muscular physique, Nathan Cross was an attractive man. His luminous eyes sparkled like diamonds in the dazzling sunlight. Nonetheless, he seemed a little displeased. Knitting his brows together, he muttered to Colin Dunne, captain of the National Guards, “Didn't I tell you to keep a low profile?” “That's what I've been telling the Channing's authorities, Sir. I'd never expected that they would make such a fuss about it,” Colin Dunne replied abashedly. “Send the troops back and inform them to lift the red alert status, reverting everything to its usual course. The same goes for you - I don't need you to follow me around. I have my own arrangements.” “Yes, Sir!” Colin Dunne clapped his heels together and saluted. Nathan Cross strode out of the airport alone, accompanied by a sudden myriad of strange emotions that tugged at his heart, which was a huge departure from his usual calm demeanor. Five years ago, the grief from his mother's passing had forced him into a drunken stupor and left him sleeping on the streets.

Then he heard that familiar banging, the same one he had heard when he was still lying down. The sound seemed to have an electrifying effect or rather, an electrocuting effect on everyone but Tito. He watched in surprise as they all froze on hearing it. His mother's face was creased with worry and she seemed to have aged a few more years. "Why don't you go talk to them, Jim," she whispered to her husband. "They will break in." "Not yet," Jim whispered in reply, his face set hard in stony resolve. "Finish packing first. Fast. Quickly!" Then the speed of bustling was increased. For the life of him, Tito could not understand what was going on. He sat staring at them as they ran about like contestants in a cooking competition. "Mama," he called to his mother. He knew she would never answer him if he called her 'Mom'. His chubby latina mother rushed to him and instead of the usual motherly concern and fussy questions, she ordered in a hurried whisper for him to get ready to leave. This was the first time his mother was ordering him, apart from the constant reminder to call her 'Mama' instead of 'Mom'. But still, it didn't sound very much like an order. Her whispered words were laced with urgent concern and it was also written all over her face. The banging sound came again, harsher this time. And again, everyone stopped dead in their tracks. The look the three adults gave to one another was enough to tell Tito that all was far from well. He quickly jumped to his feet. Though he had no idea what to do, being idle and r

Chapter 50 Chapter 50
Catching the Storm Jackson Storm can be anybody you want him to be. He can become a person you'd trust your life with or a person who can make your life a living hell on earth. And he just so happens to be a conman. Crystal Carver is the picture of perfect. A world famous *************** Crystal's POV We all know the typical boy-meets-girl stories. And we also know how they end. Boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love. Of course, there are different variations of the stories. The most typical one being that the boy and girl meet, get along great, and slowly fall for each other. There's also the one where the boy and girl completely despise each other in the beginning but then what? Oh yes, end up falling in love with each other. Then there are the ones where they're both best friends but one or both of them has some big secret that prevents them from getting together, or one of them is dating someone else. Either way it ends the same, they fall for each other. Each of those stories ends with a happily ever after. If you ask me, I'd say that's way too much love and happiness going around. This boy-meets-girl story I'm about to tell you, is a bit different than the rest. Mostly because it doesn't have a happy ending. Why? Because this isn't the end of the story. It's only just begun. Happily ever after's going to have to wait. So, unfortunately, this boy-meets-girl story does start off the same as any other. Nothing new. Nothing different. Nothing interesting. So this girl's out with some friends, having a great time, and this boy approaches her, offers to buy her a couple drinks. They get to talking and they're really getting along. He asks her for her number. She (stupidly) gives it to him. He says he'll call. Now this would be the point in the story where someone might be thinking, oh, I bet he didn't call. Please. I wish he didn't call. He calls her up the next day and they meet up. They go to eat, he takes her to the pier. They walk along the beach, splash in the waves, and have ice cream. It's the best day she's had in a long time. Fast forward a little bit and they've been going out together and "dating" for about two weeks now. She invites him to a gala being thrown for her father. She introduces him to her father and he seems to really impress her father. Now, her first mistake was meeting the guy, her second mistake was leaving him alone with her father. She leaves them to talk and goes to hang out with her friends. The entire gala she barely sees either one of them. She thinks it's odd, but doesn't think too much of it. After the gala he drives her home. For the next week or so, he comes by and continues to seduce her, buying her extravagant gifts and taking her on extraordinary dates. All the while, he also holds long conversations with her father about his line of work. Now, here's where the boy-meets-girl story changes from the rest. This girl was a very successful model-and no, I don't mean is. I mean was. Past tense. This boy

Everyone in the village was either happy for her or envious of her. What started as an acquaintance had quickly blossomed into the stage of marriage. Mary was now going to get married to this wealthy young man who stormed their village just a few weeks ago in a show of wealth. He had met her at a crossroads, having forgotten which way to take and from there, it all kicked off. Mothers watched in envy, as this young rich man paid frequent visits to Mary's house, berating their poor daughters for their lack of "good luck". They usually asked themselves, what did Mary have that their daughters did not have? From frequent visits, it graduated to a marriage proposal which was speedily accepted, much to the joy of Mary's parents and to the dismay of her peers and their envious mothers. It was time for the ceremony and Mary's home was a beehive of activity. The young man wanted a quick traditional marriage ceremony, citing his waiting job and several other important engagements in the city. He had not come with any family member other than a friend of his, but Mary and her family paid no attention to that. He was rich and he lived in the big city, having a car, fine clothes and a lucrative job as an accountant. That was more than enough to render the absence or presence of family members irrelevant. Like Mary's mother said, 'it is two of them that want to get married, not the two families'. Just after dawn, the groom was already present at the home of his in-laws. It was his intention to speed things along as fast as possible. He had notified them that the white wedding would be done in the city, but he had bought their approval by promising that the entire family would be transported over when the time comes. His presence so early in the morning made preparations move much faster than they had planned. He didn't have to say a word. He only had to stalk around the compound with an air of importance and then greet and be greeted by various family members. It was cue enough for everyone to immediately deploy to his/her responsibilities. Their rich in-law was in a hurry and no one wanted to annoy him by moving lackadaisically. When the ceremony finally began, most of the village was in attendance. Seats were of no consequence. People didn't mind standing throughout the duration of the ceremony, just so they could catch a glimpse of the superior-aired rich man that hardly gave more than a stiff smile and an Elizabeth Windsor wave. His beautiful car was there for all to see and amidst murmurs of awe and envy, they alternated their gaze between his face and the vehicle. He wasn't that handsome, this young man fro

Virulent Halcyon: The Beginning

Chapter 49
Virulent Halcyon: The Beginning book online reading Jack Blue finally found a way to see his best friend once again, who he lost during a great war. With the aid of other biochemists and the backing of the countries elite squadron O.R.B, he finalizes the serum for reanimation. With ambitions and hopes to aim higher, he fails to acknowledge the danger; he has unleashed upon Ivy City. Now the dead rise again, only without their memories and an insatiable appetite for humanity. Everyone must evacuate the city before they are torn to pieces. From here, we mark the beginning of the “Hazard” virus. Welcome to Virulent Halcyon. *************** War: a conflict carried on by force of arms, as between nations or between parties within a government; warfare, as by land, sea, or air. Two sides have been warring against each other for several years. The year is 2018, the epoch in which modern technology's inauguration and many uprising, soon to be, influential men and women rise to power. With their organizations, they are a part of the slow rise to the top. One man, Jack Blue, the leader of an organization known as C.L.O.V.E.R (Catastrophic Lab of Vile Experimenting Research), grasped this opportunity and ran with it as fast as he could. C.L.O.V.E.R was constructed two years before the war. Their purpose: create a pharmaceutical in which would allow the dead, within the month, one might add, to come back to life regardless of their illness, injuries, or any mishaps before their life ended. After losing his best friend in the war, Blue began going through the resurrection project much faster than he expected, or anyone expected for that matter. To seek more rapid completion of the antibiotic, Blue hired Ivy City's rescuing battalion known only as O.R.B. (Outstanding Rescuing Battalion) to keep an eye upon every chemist who worked upon the project and attended the meetings. On the final day of experimenting upon corpses, Blue called in all the chemists to come into C.L.O.V.E.R headquarters early in the morning to finalize their project. The serum to resurrect would be a reality; thus, their efforts paying off. The time is 6 o'clock in the morning, and the location is C.L.O.V.E.R headquarters, where chemists and O.R.B. soldiers prepare for the experiment to commence as planned. Outside, the men and women wait for the metal gates to open for them to enter. Metallic walls surrounded the hexagonal lab keeping all chemicals locked for safety purposes. Tables, test tubes, papers filled with formulas, and many computer screens were scattered all around the room as the bright light blue, fluorescent luminosity radiated downwards upon the lab. Within this lab, there only existed one exit in which the lot used as an entrance at the time. Tight security of the chemicals and current project meant fortification. For those caught, their only escape would be the door they came through. There were windows, but they weren't anything to be fond of, blockaded by metal

A Dish Best Served Cold

Chapter 1566
A Dish Best Served Cold Once upon a time, he was the eldest son of the Chu family. But because his mother was a low-born woman, both parent and child were subjected to untold humiliations. Finally, they were ousted from the Chu family. *************** “Young Master Fan, it’s been ten years already. Whatever grudges you may have, it’s time to forget about them.” “Please go home.” “Your father, your grandfather and your brothers are all waiting for you.” “As for your marriage, it concerns the honor of our family. After you return, we will select the most beautiful and most excellent woman to be your wife and the daughter-in-law of the Chu family.” “That Qiu Mu-Cheng from the Qiu family is not worthy of you. Or the Chu family.” Standing by the moat of Yunzhou city, a blotchy-eyed old man in traditional Chinese garment was earnestly trying to persuade Ye Fan. Compared to the others standing before him, Ye Fan’s clothes seemed ordinary and shabby. “Yes, it’s been ten years. A dog would be considered old by now. But the family you speak of hasn’t changed one bit.” Ye Fan laughed self-deprecatingly, with a hint of bloodshot in his eyes. “Ten years ago, my parents kneeled down in front of the Chu family’s gates. At that time, the family told my father this. They said my mother was a base commoner, not worthy of the Chu family and unfit to be their daughter-in-law. And I am born of the ‘commoner’ the family spoke of. My mother and I were driven mercilessly out of the family. We had to live in the streets. Until later, when I married into the Qiu family, where I had to endure humilations.” “For the past ten years, when did you ever give a damn about my mother and I? Now, with just a few words, you expect me to forget about this grudge and my mother’s humiliation, and return with you to continue the Chu’s family line. Do you think that’s possible?” “Go back and tell the family, my surname is Ye, not Chu.” “And tell that useless father of mine. He’s not worthy of my mother and unfit to be my father!” Ye Fan truly hated that cold-blooded family. But even more so, he hated that weakling father of his! Back then, if his father had a bit more backbone, he wouldn’t have to suffer so much humiliation with his mother. Oftentimes, Ye Fan longed for his father to protect him and his mother. But his father always chose to back down and side with the family. Even when the Chu family drove away mother and son, his father could only look on in fear. In front of the family, he didn’t dare to speak up or retaliate. And could only look on as his wife and son suffered humiliation. From the bottom of his heart, he despised his father. “Young Master Fan, please consider carefully.” “You have to understand what you are turning down. That’s wealth comparable to a nation’s budget and enough power for you to be able to look down on everyone else.” “As long as you return, you will be able to become the family head within ten years.” The old man was still trying

Medical Genius's Unspeakable Marriage “Someone had just jumped off the building!” “Everyone is saying that I’m a burden to you. I… I’m leaving now and won’t be a burden to you from… from now on. You have to live well…” *************** “Matthew, by marrying into my family, you're living a matrilocal life. Not only do you have to abide by the Three Obediences and Four Virtues, you also have to cut connections with your family!” “That’s your own sister, so why should we spend our money to save her?” “Hmph, are you saying that it concerns a human life? What is your sister’s life worth? The Larsons are a worthless family. Otherwise, why did you choose to be a live-in son-in-law here?” While Matthew Larson was rushing to the hospital, the mocking voices from Sasha Cunnigham’s, his wife’s, family kept echoing in his ears as he was recalling them from memory. Matthew was born into a glorious, big family. But when he was twelve, they encountered an unexpected disaster which wiped them out in one single night. Matthew’s father died while he was trying to protect the family. As for Matthew’s mother, she sustained serious injuries who barely escaped with him and his sister, Natalie. However, after holding on for five years, his mother passed away due to the relapse of her old injuries, leaving behind both siblings to rely on each other. As to the reason why his family went through such a terrible disaster, Matthew could no longer remember. However, before his mother passed away, she gave him a piece of jade with extreme care. Although she didn’t make it really clear, Matthew had a feeling that his family’s annihilation all started from this piece of family heirloom. When he was really young, he heard from his father that this item held the secret to the prosperity of the Larsons. Without his mother, Matthew took on the responsibility of raising his sister at the age of seventeen. Despite all difficulties, he somehow was able to pull through with gritted teeth. Three years ago, Natalie was diagnosed with leukemia. For the betrothal price of a hundred grand for the treatment of Natalie’s sickness, Matthew married into the Cunningham Family. Within these three years, Matthew became a slave for them and suffered countless humiliation in the Cunningham Family, but he endured all of it. Now that Natalie had finally found a suitable bone marrow donor after her condition worsened, he needed another three hundred grand for the surgical fees. His wife, Sasha, was away on a business trip, and he couldn’t reach her through her cellphone at all. So, he turned to the Cunninghams for a loan since he was unable to come up with the sum. As a result, they heartlessly threw him out of the house. After that, Matthew went to the office of the director of the hospital as he tightened his jaw before he pushed the door in. An arrogant-looking man wearing a pair of glasses was seated in the room. Jeffrey Zimmerman, the director of the hospital, was also Sasha’s senior i

A guy with blond hair from the dormitory next door kicked Chen Hao's door open. After dropping off a buck, he tucked his hand into his pockets and proceeded back to his room. "By the way, Chen Hao, do stop by the supermarket downstairs and grab me a bottle of mineral water while you’re at it!" The blonde-hair guy turned around and threw another three bucks on the ground. Two bucks were for the water, and the other was Chen Hao’s errand fee. "Hey Blondie, why do the people from your dormitory always ask Chen Hao to run errands for you? Isn’t that bullying?" The people in Chen Hao's dormitory asked with a straight face as they could not stand it anymore. "Oh! Dear Chen Hao’s roommates, haven't you all noticed? He’s willing to do anything for money! " Blondie said with a sarcastic tone and left with a smirk on his face. Chen Hao’s face flushed as he ignored the snarky comments. He stooped and picked up the few banknotes from the ground. He secretly thought, This way, I’ve earned two bucks. That’s enough for me to buy three steamed bread and a bag of salted vegetables, so I won’t starve any more! "Chen Hao... Don't go. If you don’t have any money, we’ll lend it to you. You don't have to pay it back!" said the dorm leader, sympathetically. Chen Hao smiled bitterly and shook his head, "Thank you..." He turned around and headed out. The people in the dorm gazed at Chen Hao's figure from behind and shook their heads with pity. The truth was, Chen Hao didn’t want to be an errand boy. He, too, wished to spend his days happily in the university, just like everyone else. However, he was lucky enough to even study at a university. He was extremely poor! His roommates were very nice to him. But the more they helped, the less he wanted their help. Otherwise, no matter how strong their friendship was, there would eventually be a gap between them. Apart from his roommates, Chen Hao had almost nothing in the university!

Great Marshal: Marrying the Bridesmaid

Chapter 1592
Great Marshal: Marrying the Bridesmaid He, the original young master of the Williams family in Atheville, had been forced by the head of the Williams family to take his twin brother's place in jail fifteen years ago. No one had spoken up for him in the family, including his parents. He was released from prison five years later. And in just a few years, he became a marshal with unparalleled power and the world's number one God of War. *************** Oakheart International Airport, which had always been hustling and bustling, had no signs of tourists at all. The entire place was so silent that one could hear a pin drop. Only thousands of men dressed in camouflage uniforms were present with loaded weapons, waiting in anticipation. “Zone one, clear!” “Zone two, clear!” The colonel who carried two stripes and three stars on his shoulders, Lone Wolf, let out a long sigh of relief after hearing the report. “The coast is clear. You may alight now, Great Marshal.” Zeke extinguished the cigar in his hand before he slowly walked out of the private jet. He was decked out in a fur coat that rustled in the cold wind. His expression was bland, but it instilled fear in others, nonetheless. He exuded an aura like that of a monarch overlooking the world, which made people hold their breaths. Thousands of soldiers shifted their gaze to him uniformly, their eyes brimming with admiration. He was a living legend and their faith. “Welcome back, Great Marshal!” Lone Wolf hurriedly greeted. Zeke nodded indifferently. “Great Marshal,” Lone Wolf continued gingerly, “Your family has sent some people to meet you. They are waiting in the lounge.” “They seem desperate for you to return to the family.” Zeke stood rooted to the ground as he looked toward the lounge. There was indeed a row of people in suits, anxiously awaiting his return. As their eyes met, the people inside shuddered and couldn't help but kneel on the ground with pleading eyes. It would be a major shock to anyone who saw this scene. Did the dignified and influential Williams family of Atheville just get down on their knees?

Ode To The Dragon

Chapter 241
Ode To The Dragon Being an invincible hero, he was poisoned with an unique toxin and suffered from hysteria. Just when a suicidal thought crossed his mind, someone told him that he had a daughter from a one night stand back in his field days 5 years ago. *************** The North Pole, a land with nothing but ice and snow, with the earth and the sky in different shades of the same white, and in the deepest corners of this land, in a place undetectable even by satellite imagery, a military base towered above all else. It had the best elite soldiers, a state-of-the-art medical team and top-notch weapons, but only insiders knew this world-class military base was not built for research or intelligence purposes, but to protect one man—a man who’d been locked away, but was capable of bringing glory to the three million soldiers of the Donghua Armed Forces! In the blizzard, a muscular old man with sharp eyebrows strode through the base, his military boots stepping on the snow with an audible crunch. “That boy’s illness is acting up again? What’s the situation?” The old man’s voice rang out as clearly as a church bell; on his shoulder, three golden stars gleamed. “Marshal!” A military doctor wearing a white lab coat saluted him, then sighed. “The Dragon Head is getting worse. It’s the third time this month. Not only that, his aggression and destructive abilities have more than tripled! We’ve purposely reinforced the room wall with the sturdiest aeronautical alloys, so he can rampage all he wants, but… ” Before the doctor could finish, a dozen elite soldiers emerged, struggling to carry a twenty-centimeter-thick chunk of the alloy metal wall. The wall itself was covered in dents made by sandbag-sized fists, along with big footprints and even a dent from a headbutt; all of the dents were clearly defined and, judging from the extensive force used, they were almost enough to puncture the wall itself. “That boy did all this?” “Yes, yes.” The old man felt a prickle on his scalp; a twenty-centimeter-thick, reinforced wall made of aeronautical alloys was sturdy enough to withstand the explosion of a small missile, and now, this man had all but turned it to scrap metal. With a force so strong, tanks seemed like nothing in comparison. “I want to see him,” the old man said calmly. The doctor became nervous and hastily said, “Marshal, the Dragon Head has just recovered from his fit of aggression, and it might come back at any moment. It’s too dangerous, so you—” The old man strode inside without a word. In a custom-built room made of alloy metals, a young man sat on a chair with his limbs cuffed and his body shirtless. Although his skin was a gleaming bronze and his muscles were bulging, he was covered in wounds and scars that criss-crossed over one another—the sign of an honorable warrior. However, his eyes were completely devoid of emotion, and his aura reeked of death and despair. A corner of the old man’s mouth twitched, his heart feeling a sta

Agent 13 (Book 1) She's the ghost story you tell around a camp fire. The monster that hides in your closet. The nightmare that wakes you from your sleep. She's the definition of the word 'deadly'. She never smiles, never shows any emotion other than a blank stare. Unless, *************** ZERO "Sir if I may speak to you about your decision." "The decision has already been made Agent 53 there is nothing to discuss." I address him calmly. "Agent 13 is hardly-" "My decision is final and that is that." "She's wild, she's reckless, her tactics are, are barbaric!" "She gets the job done." "She's a loose cannon." "She's also, the best agent we've ever had." "I understand that, really I do," he responds "but do you really believe this is a good idea? Throwing her into a team of agents? She hasn't worked with anyone in over two years. You of all people know how she can get with other agents, she doesn't trust them, and throwing her into a group of complete strangers is not going to end well. Somebody's going to get hurt and it's not going to be her!" "I am aware." "Then why not just send her on the mission alone? You said so yourself she gets the job done." I say nothing in reply as I hand him the mission file, giving him time to read over it before speaking again. "Normally, yes I would send her on this mission alone but as you pointed out, I do know her, and I know how she can get. She is the only one capable of completing this mission but I'm not going to risk sending her on it alone. I need other agents to keep an eye on her and report back if she begins taking things too far. She knows these people better than anyone, regretfully, and she can help the team just as much as they can help her. Who knows this might just be the chance to get her back on a team, permanently." "You know she'll never agree to this." He responds, glancing up from the file. "Actually, she already has." CODY I slam my fist into the punching bag yet again and watch as it shakes and protests against the chains. "Hit that thing any harder and you'll break it." I turn to face a smirking Devin leaning on the wall across from me. "Like I care." I retort. He opens his mouth to make a smart ass reply but is cut off as Chase walks up. "Devin quit bothering Cody." "Me!?" shouts Devin "I didn't even do anything!" "Yet" Jason interjects as he sits down on the benches. I shoot Devin a smug look causing him to curse under his breath and flip me the bird. "That's enough" Chase snaps. "Someone got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning." Mumbles Jason earning snickers from me and Devin as well as a glare from Chase. He holds his hands up in surrender. "Just saying" he states as Chase continues to glare. Suddenly the PA speakers blast to life. "Delta team 2 please report to chief Zero's office for mission briefing." "The chief's office?" Jason questions "It must be pretty important if he wants to speak to us directly." Chase muses. Though what he said makes
